Lucas, Texas

The Town of Lucas (population 9,405) is in south central Collin County bordered by Fairview to the north, Allen to the west, Parker to the southwest and Wylie to the south. It is about 15 minutes east of Central Expressway (State Hwy 75) which is one of the main arteries into downtown Dallas.

Tucked away on the shores of Lavon Lake offering large acreage, Lucas moves at a slower, more laid-back pace. Lucas is truly a hidden gem. So many people look in the far North Dallas suburbs for a place to call home and Lucas gets overlooked by many of the bigger suburbs like Frisco and Plano. Lucas is most known for its country suburbia lifestyle, one lane roads, and equestrian love.

You can expect some luxury lake life and impressive homes. Homes typically have larger than normal lots and more space between the homes. Almost all homes in Lucas are on at least one acre, which is by design. There are several custom-built homes and lots of people with horses and cows. Lucas offers an option with low density and a peaceful quiet. There is plenty of open ranch or farmland.

With the lake bordering Lucas to the east, nights are dark and quiet. You can actually look up and still see a blanket of stars. Lucas winds around the west side of Lake Lavon, so if you enjoy fishing or water skiing, you can have your boat launched onto the lake within minutes. All of the land around Lake Lavon is owned by Army Corps of Engineers for lake control and will be protected forever.

If horses are your passion, there is an 18 mile equestrian and walking trail lovingly maintained by the Trinity Trail Association in Lucas.

This is a perfect spot for anyone who enjoys that country feeling in a town but also likes being somewhat close to things like grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping.

The median home value in Lucas is $536,507 and the median household income is $159,445

The city of Lucas has six different school districts within the city limits:
Lovejoy Independent School District (ISD)
Allen ISD
McKinney ISD
Plano ISD
Princeton ISD
Wylie ISD
The private Lucas Christian Academy is also in the city.

Of these, by far, the most sought-after school district is Lovejoy ISD, one of, if not the finest in the entire state. Every year, families are taking their kids out of private schools to attend Lovejoy ISD. Even more surprising, many families outside of the Lovejoy ISD boundaries will buy in to attend at a cost of $8K to $10K per year. That means they are paying school taxes to the school district in which they reside plus a fee to attend another Lovejoy. That speaks volumes for Lovejoy ISD.
